DIY: Pop Tarts
The perfect snack to ring in the brand new Gilmore Girls episodes.
“The pop-tart tasted like freedom, and rebellion and, independence.”
Pop tarts have made an appearance in Gilmore Girls on many occasions. I mean, Rory brought them to a meeting with Michelle Obama. It was a daily breakfast and true addiction for the Gilmores. And we’re feeding into it, literally.
What you’ll need: 1 package of refrigerated pie crusts 1/3 cup strawberry jam 2 cups confectioner’s sugar 2 tablespoons milk 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Steps:
Roll out the pie crust and begin cutting into pop tart size rectangles. This recipe suggests 8, which will make 4 pop tarts.
Once you have your pop tart bases, put them onto a baking tin.
Begin scooping the strawberry jam into the center of the pop tart (not too much, as it will spread in the oven!)
Lay the second piece overtop and, using a fork, make the infamous pop tart ridges.
Put them in the oven for around 7-10 minutes at 425°, depending on your oven.
While they’re in the oven, make your frosting by adding the confectioner’s sugar, milk and vanilla extract to bowl and mixing to a paste consistency.
Once they’re done, put the icing on so it will melt onto the pop tart. Apply sprinkles (if you want), and let them cool!
