Our Top 10 Looks from NYFW
Fashion month is deep in its groove already, with the shows in Paris that kicked off late Monday, September 25. But Mimp Mag’s fashion editors are still dreaming about several endearing ‘fits from the New York shows earlier this September. We saw a lot of combination outfits - looks containing everything from patent leather to silk, and modernistic fanny packs placed on top of large structured blazers. (Marc Jacobs spoke for himself with a silent show focusing on beautiful fabrics, patterns, drop earrings and headwraps.)
New York Fashion Week has always been surrounded by conversation. This year, the conversation revolved around the departures and returns designers were making to the city. New York-based brands like Rodarte and Altuzarra decided to leave the city and hold their shows in Paris. And while some of the biggest names in fashion left their home turf, designers like Tom Ford came back with new concepts and designs.
Trends spanned from dainty, feminine florals at Ulla Johnson all the way to neon colours at Jeremy Scott, Christian Siriano and The Blonds. Caroline Herrera took us for a walk through the flowers with her runway set in the Museum of Modern Art’s garden.
Something very noticeable was the abundance of suits, seen in shows like Tom Ford and The Rue. The 80s fashion resurgence is still in full effect, from last spring through to this fall, and coming up again for spring 2018. This poised and professional spin on spring has us feeling all tingly.
We teamed up to share what looks from the week gave us heart eyes (and what we hope to be imitating in our outfits next spring!) Our 10 favourite looks from NYFW embody everything it means to be a woman — fun, powerful and elegant.
